I'm not a breakfast fan, but I do like oatmeal. My kids love it, too, especially the baby. It's her new favorite thing to feed herself and smear in her hair. I don't like all the junk that is in the instant stuff, though, and I don't like taking the time to make a fresh batch of old fashioned oats every morning. So, I make steel cut oats in the crockpot! This makes a very large batch that I usually make on Sunday and it will last the kids for breakfast for most of the week. I really like the texture of the steel cut oats, too.
Ingredients
3 cups steel cut oats (NOT quick cooking or old-fashioned)
4 cups milk
4 cups water
1 apple, peeled & chopped
2 tsp cinnamon
3 tablespoons raw honey
Combine in crockpot and cook on low for 6-8 hours.
